Mid-Century Flat

2024 / Completed / 120 sq.m.

Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Kypseli, this mid-century apartment embodies the essence of post-war Athenian urban architecture. The renovation approached the space with a clear intention: to carefully preserve its original character while introducing contemporary interventions that enhance everyday living.

At the heart of the redesign is a reconfiguration of the apartment’s core. The entrance and kitchen were unified to form a generous, welcoming hall that acts as the central hub of the home. This transformation improves circulation and establishes a stronger spatial connection between the public and private zones of the apartment.

The kitchen, defined by vibrant color and clean modern lines, becomes the project’s focal point. Strategically positioned between the living area and the more private quarters, it operates as both a functional workspace and a social anchor within the home.

Materiality plays a key role in balancing past and present. Newly introduced terrazzo tiles dialogue with the carefully preserved wooden flooring, creating a calm and cohesive atmosphere while celebrating the apartment’s original fabric. The addition of an en-suite master bathroom further elevates the layout, introducing a level of privacy and comfort that aligns the historic apartment with contemporary living standards.
