Family Residence
2025 / Completed / 250 sq.m.
Renovation of a modernist residence originally constructed between 1969 and 1970, with the restoration and redesign carried out during 2024–2025. The architectural intervention is firmly grounded in the principles of the existing modern structure, while being enriched with references to the Greek movement of critical regionalism. The design seeks to reinterpret the building’s original identity through a contemporary architectural vocabulary that remains sensitive to its historical context.
The residence is organized according to an open-plan configuration for the primary living areas, fostering spatial continuity and visual permeability. It accommodates three bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, ensuring both privacy and functional clarity. The outdoor spaces are defined by the existing pilotis, which has been carefully integrated into the new design as a vital exterior living area that mediates between interior and landscape.
A central architectural theme is the strategic incorporation of ceramic screens—claustra—which delineate, organize, and filter both interior and exterior spaces. Their light-filtering quality evokes Mediterranean architectural traditions, establishing a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. Within the pilotis, a small pool mirrors the volume of the structure above and is framed by a tall, orthogonal wall that forms a composed architectural backdrop.
Particular emphasis was placed on the color palette and material selection, combining complementary colors and textures with preserved original elements to create a cohesive composition that revitalizes the spirit of 1970s modernism.
