COMPACT APARTMENT
2018 / Completed / 70 sq.m.
Located in the northern part of Athens, this compact apartment presented a spatial challenge that called for a precise and thoughtful organizational strategy. The design approach focuses on clarity of layout and the creation of distinct yet interconnected living zones within a limited footprint.
The two principal living areas are structured around a central service core, where the bathroom and walk-in closet are positioned as parallel volumes. These elements function as spatial columns that define and organize the apartment’s circulation while separating the main programs.
On one side, the kitchen and living room form a continuous social space, while on the opposite side the bedroom and office are paired as a more private, flexible zone. Between them sits the central “black box,” a strong architectural element that acts as both a visual anchor and a subtle barrier, organizing movement and framing the relationship between the two parallel living sequences.
The apartment’s contemporary character is expressed through a restrained yet tactile material palette. Bare metallic finishes and exposed concrete surfaces are balanced by warm sandy tones, creating a calm and refined atmosphere that enhances the clarity of the spatial composition while adding depth and texture to the interior.
